About this episode

Rehearsals fail when they become performances. In this episode of Wedding Studio by You Had Me At I Do, Mike and Jen share a 20–30 minute structure: who must attend, walk marks only, optional mic check, documenting changes the same night, what not to rehearse (full vows), and handling no-shows.

Based on

Run a Rehearsal That Actually Helps — Not a Second Ceremony

Show notes

Mike and Jen on rehearsals that help — marks and music, not a second ceremony.

Structure

  1. Places: where everyone stands.
  2. Processional and recessional once.
  3. Mic/reader handoffs if needed.
  4. Document changes immediately.

Do not

  • Force full vow performances that spike nerves.
  • Let the rehearsal sprawl into reception debates.

Tips & suggestions

  • Timebox to 20–30 minutes when possible.
  • Rehearse marks and cues — not full emotional vows.
  • Require the people who move: couple, party, parents as needed, DJ if critical.
  • Write changes into the script before you leave the venue.
  • Have a no-show backup for readers and ring roles.
  • End with one clear “this is the plan” summary.
