How to hand off a ceremony to an emergency backup officiant
Updated on September 6, 2026
Studio’s emergency backup is a file you download or email: ceremony script, VIPs, vendors, procession and seating, Internal Notes, pronunciation, and other day-of essentials. You send it on purpose. It is not an automatic blast to a stranger.
Do this while you are well
- Keep the wedding record current — names spelled, walking order after rehearsal, vendor contacts tap-to-call.
- Know who your backup officiant is before Saturday.
- Practice Day-of Mode so you are not learning the download on a gurney.
When you cannot get there
- Open the wedding record → download or email the emergency backup HTML.
- Send it to the backup officiant with the venue address and start time in the first sentence.
- Tell them where the paper copy is if you already printed one.
- Do not make them hunt through a shared Google Doc named “ceremony stuff.”
